I rather have at least 4 years more of freedom before jumping in to a big commitment.

Dude, dude GO TO COLLEGE FIRST! After you're done there then join the Army with a commission. You'd start out with at least 2nd lieutenant. I've been in 3 years and 10 months and I'm only just now about to make Sergeant, even then I still didn't have enough time in service to get SGT. I was a good little soldier and got recommended by my superiors to be promoted. Pay is way high when you're commissioned.

Oh yeah my ASVAB was 55. I have the math skillz of a 5th grader.

I was thinking of joining the air force (wanted to be a pilot) but I was also looking to being a engineer and what not.

Well You can join the Airforce but every body and their dog thinks they can be a pilot. I'd try and go to an Airforce recruiter and get it locked into a contract. If you join the Army You can go warrant Officer and fly choppers and be your own boss and not get stuck with soldiers that you have to take care of. Being a warrant officer is a chill job. Just to let you know If you want to be an engineer be prepared on being deployed. Stay away from EOD(Explosive Ordnance Disposal)! They be the ones to find IED's.

Cursed here is the website for pay grades. I'm E-4 and make $946.44 every two weeks. After the food and bills I pay plus the random crap I buy I usually have about 400 to 200 left that I put in savings. I would have more left but I spend a lot on food because I eat out every meal :D

yeah you can walk away from a deployment with a lot of money. Hazard duty pay plus no tax, nothing to buy for 12 months (15 MO in my case) I came back with 30,000 in my bank.
