Lately I have been slowly phasing out my "old as dirt" peripherals. I decided it was dumb to have a watercooled, overclocked, quad core, 8gb, Raided, SLI blah blah gaming rid, with a 17inch beige 50lb monitor, so I got a nice 20 inch LCD. Then not long ago I got a Razer Lachesis 4000dpi mouse on woot for less than half price I'm still getting used to it, but its working out.

Well its now a sad sad day, my keyboard, that I snagged from a closet from my old job at a bank (in 2001), that originally came on a PII/PIII class IBM server, is showing signs of wear. Its a nice keyboard with good response and pressure, and doesn't look old:

But the WSADR keys are all worn out, and now the W key is half stuck down, its does not spring back up, but it still works, just time for a new one.

So I got a Das Keyboard, it will be at my house today:

It uses true mechanical keys, vs membrane keys of all modern keyboards, so it will pretty much last forever, has a much more tactile feel, (makes a click sound and feel when the key activates, instead of bottoming out like a normal keyboard, so it causes alot less fatigue and less typo's). I will let you know if it is worth it at all, $130 is alot for a keyboard but time will tell.

Also, if you want the feel of a mechanical keyboard, but can't break the bank on it, ABS makes a knock-off that had some problems at first, but they have fixed them, but its not quite as awesome as das keyboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6823224001

I thought about getting the ABS one, but the fact that the das allows 12 keys at once (vs around 4 for the ABS, which is standard for most keyboards), and the complaints on newegg, I changed my mind.

Techreport has 2 good articles on both keyboards:

ABS:

How do you like it, its a different feel than a normal mouse, made for "high sensitivity gaming" there are certain things you are supposed to do to make it work right.

Open control panel and turn off "enhance pointer percision" in the mouse/pointer options. Also set to the middle option there.

Then in the razer settings thing, in the advanced options, turn off any "acceleration" options, make sure the windows mouse speed is set to 5, this was all in a guide for this mouse I found, it helps alot. Then what I did was I turned off all the side buttons (because the right side buttons cycles through the 5 profiles, I kept hitting it playing L4D and it has a 5 second pause while you change profiles where you cant move the mouse). I kept the resolutions all standard, set my in game sensitivity to 2.0-2.2, this way in a game, I set the mouse to full sensitivity, and then back if off 2 clicks for windows/menus in games. It sucks having to change modes but in game its very precise and works well, but out of game I am not a fan of it.

Here is the review (with the setup guide):

Ah cool, yeah I turned off those 2 sides buttons which toggle through the profiles. I'd much rather just get used to one profile.

As for the feeling, I am still trying to get used to it. I used to have a Razer Diamondback which I also got from woot. It had a much more easier grip to get used to. With the Lachesis I feel like I have to adjust my arm a little more since its a bigger mouse.

I'll check up on those settings, sometimes when I keep the mouse still and I tap my desk a little it moves on the screen, possibly because I set the sensitivity too high.

I'll read up on that article. It'll probably answer some of the questions I had with the mouse since it was refurbished and didn't come with the original boxing/manual from woot.

No thanks, I dont look at my keys, no reason to have every key be a tiny screen, plus its not the keys that are pressed, but a key cover, does not sound like a very comfortable and useful keyboard (besides looking cool).

I got the Razer Mamba since a few months ago and I'm still getting used it but I've almost mastered it.

Anyways about the acceleration. Sometimes when I'm in-game my acceleration enables by itself and I disable it ofc but then it enabales itself again.
So what I wanna ask you ppl who got a Razer-mouse. Does this happend to you too?
If so, how do I make it stop cause it's freakin' annoying when your mouse starts lagging in-game out of nowhere.
Then you have to go to the desktop and open the razertray and disable it and etc.

I honestly still play with a track ball mouse and I love it (Not so much when there's crumbs on my mouse pad).

Oh man Cole I see a ton of those IBM Keyboards everyday. The IBM downtown in the city I love in donated like 1000 of those for the non-for-profit company I'm working for over the summer.
