Its about half and half. IF you have no skill you can win sometimes, if you have skill you are more likely to win (or do better) repeatedly, but no skill will pull you out of just a bad game.

90% luck
10%skill

If you play and always have a bad hand, Quite hard to be good.

Meaning if you always have a shitty hand, Its hard to win.

^ having a shitty hand every time... yes that is shitty luck. But thats the name of the game "Know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold 'em" AmIright? Crucial?

i agree w/ cole its 50/50, unless your one of those card counters who can so it all in their head.

I feel its more like 80 percent skill... sure the cards have to come but if you limp in big blind with a "bad hand" and hit you are in position to take money... as phil ivey says "Poker is about everything BUT the cards" its a game a witts... its not what you have its what your opponent has and/or thinks you have... I was up real late last night because I came off a bad beat... I flopped a straight and the guy rivered a boat, lost 112 bucks :\

If you know the odds of a card hitting it gives you an advantage.

For example:

Pocket Jacks vs Pocket 10s

you can only catch a 10 (or a 4 card straight) to win this hand, since there are only 4 10s in a deck and you are holding 2 of them you have a 2/52 chance or roughly 5% chance of winning the hand aka a 2 outer

Niko you will not always have bad hands, patience is a virtue.

Just chit chatting, i love NL Tx Hold'em and like to hear other people's opinions.

30% Skill of knowing when to fold and hold.
10% Controlling your body language and being serious when you bluff (Idk if this is considered skill)
60% Luck

I'm sorry but I'm sure the last thing you'll want is Laurence Fishburne hunting your ass down

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counting_cards

Counting cards IS primary used for blackjack. And they don't shuffle the cards on blackjack, they use multiple decks and go through each deck about 3/4 of the way (called a shoe), then shuffle. So you can play for 5-10 minutes with no shuffle.
