So I had to wake up at like 7 today and to go get my time schedule for school, I took my van to school to pick it up. So I was following this tall white van with no brake lights on at ALL, he was driving in the right lane, (to lanes on each side of the road), and he was close to the dotted line so I couldn't see in front of him. The limit on the road is 50km/h, we were doing 55 maybe. So I wanted to pass this guy in case he had to slam his brake and I wouldn't be able to tell because he had no brake lights. So I make sure the right lane is clear, put my signal on, move over and get my speed up to about 70-73 to make the pass. As soon as I passed him I got back in the right lane and slowed down to about 60, I notice up the road I was being waved down by a cop. Thoughts going through my mind are just fuck my life, i am screwed. He ends up showing me his gun and saying I was doing 73 on a 50, I told him I was just passing that van because he had no brake lights on, and I also told him I slowed down to 60 once I passed. He said that doesn't effect the fact that I was speeding. He asked for my license, registration and ownership. I didn't have my ownership on me, because I don't like to leave it in the van/car because if the vehicle gets stolen, they got my ownership. So he said he wasn't going to fine me for not having my ownership since that was a valid reason. BUT, I did end up getting a speeding ticket, he lowered it to 60km/h on a 50. But I also lose my license for a few days since I have a record of other tickets... He noticed that on his computer so that's why he lowered it he said, so I wouldn't lose my license for too long. I come home and tell my dad, and he told me to take it to court, since I did get the guy without brake lights license plate. I may stand a chance if the judge decides that, that was a valid reason and hopefully will drop the fine. In the end I ended up being late to get my time schedule and I have to wait till the first day of school to get it now, a 40$ speeding ticket, a suspended license, and now I get to go to court and spend 3-6 hours fighting a fucking 40$ ticket. All this shit for passing some asshole without his brake lights.... |

shut the fuck up, basically what I was trying to say is that our legal system is so fucking stupid. My city is in such a bad economic state right now, that the only reason they ticketed me was to make a few bucks since our city is in the shits. (IMO) But they say "Speeding is a ZERO TOLERANCE offence, fucking bullshit, I see cops all the time driving with traffic speeding 10-20km/h over the limit. So I pass a guy and get fucked over for 40$? Fucking crap imo. |

I think that all the time about the those extra speedy cops. I'm thinkin to myself,"It's 11am in OKC...nothin's goin on to be drivin THAT fast." :p but ya I got a fatass ticket sophmore year college for speedin to make a turn at the left light to catch it. It's def. a no tolerance at all times from what I've learned too :\ I didn't even fight it. After a month passes by to go to court u just say eff it. Btw it was only $40 and lateness? Sphh count ur stars. I got 55 in a 35 and $200 and my insurance jacked up |

How many points/stars can you have it on your license before you lose it until you retake a test? |

Lucky. After we get 12 points on our license (or 6 points in the first 2 years of passing) you have to retake your driving test. |

I will start out by asking you if your speed was only 73km/h, when around the time you were passing the van? Second if your speed was only for the short time of passing him, which vehicle was larger? Yours or the guy you passed? Oh, I almost forgot. How far away from you did he clock your speed? Was he static (stationary) or moving? I'll see if I can't help you out  It sounds like from the above book that he was static in front of you?

Uh well, - Yes it was only 73 from what I was watching. and yes when I was passing him about 73, after I changed back top the right lane I slowed right down to 60ish. - He had like a dodge sprinter and I was driving an Astro van, His van was thin and taller but my van is much wider. So I would say mine. - I would say he clocked me from maybe 250-250m and he was stationary. ty for any help =D |

It would have been better if the vehicle you were passing was bigger than yours. When you go to court be sure and ask the cop: when was the last time his radar accuracy was verified with tuning forks? Depending on the band the radar is, there is also the possibility that the wrong tuning fork can be used... eg, x band tuning fork for x band radar; k band fork for k band radar; ka band forks are specific to the manufacturer of radar (all four manufacturers use different ka band operating frequencies.) Dude, be sure to go to this website. Any good cop prepares for a court room appearance. I bet he's lazy  http://www.copradar.com/preview/chapt7/ch7d2.html I'd read these sections. 1.
