The dual core vs quad thing is a touch subject in the gaming world right now. Just like when I build my first dual core 2 years ago, everyone ways saying, why buy dual 2.0 for the same price as a single 2.6, because the single 2.6 will beat the dual in games. I was very happy with my purchase back then because I could play my games, and not have something (like windows updates) suddenly make me lag, then when source and other multi threaded games came out, my computer blew them away.

Same goes for quads now, the dual 3.0 is going to beat the quad 2.66 in all old games, but my thinking is, those games with the quad 2.66 play at MAX fps anyway, you will never see any fps drop, it is going to play no worse than the dual, then when new games come out, it will be 75% faster than the dual on the newer games, because it has 2 more processors, but money also matters.

If you cannot swing the 1050, or even the 1200, let me know, I have a plan for you, buy a cheapo processor, like this one:

Buy the zalman cooler listed at the top, overclock the mess out of this chip, learn to overclock on it, if you kill it, who cares. Then in 8 months from now, when prices drop, buy a quad and drop it in your board. Even that cheap chip is still 3x as powerful as a Pentium 4 2.4ghz, and you can almost double overclock that chip to the 3.2+ghz

And I am running the Quad chips at 3.55ghz, on water, woot!!! But you can run the same chip on air, just at lower a lower speed, like 3.2.



But either way, quad 45nm core2 chips running at 3.2 is bad ass, especially if you look how much the quad 3.2 chip cost, and I can tell you how to do the same speed out of the chip that is only $350!

Well, if you are wanting to overclock the quad to its fullest potential, you will DEF. need the watercooling.

If you are wanting to run it at stock voltages...then you would only need the Zahlman 9700.

The 9700 will allow you to reach a 4.0GHz overclock if you decide to go with the dualcore. Which DOES mean better game play in alot of today's games. Most games, CZ included, do not utilize all 4 cores of the quad. Only 2. So with that being said...a 4.0GHz Dualcore is faster than a 3.0GHz quad in these situations.

Also, since you likely wont be able to achieve a 3.5GHz+ overclock on anything other than water/etc. Then for money's sake, you might just save that extra $100.00 until there is much more out there that can utilize the full potential of that quad.


The choice is strictly yours...but I believe the E3110 will be plenty for what you would use it for.


...unless you do tons of compiling/movie editing.
