That's not a standard CAT-5 cable that you get from newegg for $10...
It's a special wire that's made specifically for audio-equipment. Such as, if you were to build an awesome state-of-the-art sound system, you don't use regular cabling. You need something that has great insulation and a pure current flow. Otherwise, you don't get the full potential your sound system can produce.
It looks like Denom sound systems use an RJ-45 end connector for their cables and hook-ups - the same that CAT-5/e cables use, the popular ones you hook up your computers and networks too.
Monster cables are another brand of cabling. Anyone who's ever worked for them knows they cost a "fuck-load" of money for, to the common person, an ordinary cable.

First of all no, $499 is NOT too much to spend for a cable, let alone a intricately crafted and flawless piece of perfection...

I consider myself an audiophile - I regularly spend over $1000 on cables to get the ultimate sound. I keep my music-listening room in a Faraday cage to prevent any interference that could alter my music-listening experience....
No really... people seriously do go crazy for this stuff. It costs a lot, but there is a difference.
