Talk to me in TS for some in depth GT200 info.
But for the short version of it,
GTX280 = way too much money for the power, it only matches the 9800gx2 in power but for $150 more
GTX260 = still too expensive right now, it will be the chip to get when it drops below $300
They are both still 65nm, low yields, once they drop to 55nm the yields will go up, prices will drop, temps will drop, and it will be a better buy. This is going to happen really soon, already happend in the 9 series, they shrunk the G92 again, and called it a 9800gtx"+" and it is about $220 (not a bad buy).
The GT200 processor is the largest chip TSMC has ever built. It literally is larger than 4 Penryn's
Dollar for power right now its a bad buy, a 8800gts 512 (170), 9800gtx (200_ or gtx + (220), or a 4850 (175) and 4870 (300) are all better chips at this moment for the price. The 4850 tends to beat the 9800GTX fyi, but has no physics....
All of that being said, I AM getting one. They are bad ass, but I will get one that is 55nm and well under 400 bucks.
Also, nvidia now has physics (PhysX) on all their cards (series 8 and newer) but only a few, the GT200's and the 9800's have them enabled, next month any 8 series or newer will get physics enabled on card.
