Firefox is better for one grand reason: It's safer.

I prefer using IE more, it's more simple I guess. But I do have Firefox, and use it when I need to.

I'd probably say Firefox, like Display said; It's safer and you can trust it more

Just use firefox for a bit once you get used to it you will see yourself why it is better.

You don't get as many pop ups and it's easy to handle your settings and what not.

Firefox is better for the "average joe" because of one main reason, it does not allow active X. IE does not allow it unless you accept it, it is that little drop down below your address bar on some sites, that says, blah blah blah, right click and allow, etc.

Active X installs software on your computer, some sites need this (like windows updates), which you cannot do in IE. Before Firefox 2, IE was still better in some ways (uses less memory, firefox has leaks, and uses more cpu), so some sites, like digg, youtube, and other movie sites sometimes lag in firefox2. Firefox 3 seems to have fixed that issue.

I tell everyone to use FF3, but in some cases is it still not as good as IE, so I use both. I use FF for my main browser, but for certain sites I still use IE (like uploading to youtube, it just works better). It is harder to "get into trouble" with firefox though, so it is a safer browser. But honestly it is not the browser that gets you in trouble, its going to stupid sites and accepting malicious files.
