Thats way to much. 8800s can be had for $115, 8600s can be had for $33, and 9600s (same power as a 8800) $90.

Yeh, I would say go with the 8600's because of inexpensivness. Plus it should be able to run about any game exept for crysis or some thing.

Whenever I get around to it, I'll replace my geforce 420 for one of those.

so your saying your current video card is integrated? cuz if it is, before installing a new vid card you should do this

go to your desktop, right click, properties, hit the settings tab, hit advanced, hit the adapter tab, hit properties, the bottom of it, it should say Device Usage, disable it (DON'T UNINSTALL IT, or you will have an ass of a time, cuz you'll have to do a driver rollback or format your comp)

or you can do it the fast way :D

start, right click my computer, manage, and on the left side, click device manager and the right side should change, click the plus sign (for more options) on display adapters, and your video card name should be there, right click that and do disable (NOT UNINSTALL, I CAN'T STRESS THAT ENOUGH)

wtf is the point of that?

If you get a new video card, you just stick in the slot, hook up the VGA or DVI cable to it and it works just like that, then you install the drivers

no, cuz if you have an integrated video card with a new video card, your monitor will be black when it's on

Weird.

When I got mine it automatically disabled the onboard and switched to the card, then I just had to install the drivers to get the right resolutions and stuff

yeah, sometimes you have to disable it manually, it's pretty lame, i accidentally uninstalled my video card, and for some reason, my driver rollback was deleted and i had to format my comp, it was soooo gay

Yeah well they are even cheaper than they were the last time I checked, but its been a little while.

And most computers I've dealt with automatically recognized the card when I plug it in and turned the integrated video off. They all were AMD computers. I've only dealt with one INTEL that I had to manually diable it. Not sure if it had anything to do with it or the BIOS version. Maybe Cole will know.
