So, my sister reformatted my laptop cos she said it was running way to slow and had to much un-needed programs on it.

I'm trying to get it hooked on to the Internet again, but I'm running into some problems.

I reset my router today (forgot password to get in the network etc) I've set it up how I usually do it, but now I get "limited or no connectivity" I thought I must have done something wrong, so I tried it out on my mums laptop, its the same problem. I reset the router again and tried but it carries on happening.

I tried to repair the wireless, but I get an error saying:

Quote:
The following steps of the repair operation failed:
Renewing the IP address
Refreshing all DHCP leases and re-registering DN...
Please contact your network Administrator or ISP

Does anyone know how to fix both problems? (IP and limited conectivity)

ok, is the router sending you the ip?

when you type ipconfig /all are you getting a full iP?

are you able to ping out? ping woot.com, anything? pinging the router? are you able to?

answer some of those for me.

It might be that you configured the router wrong.

Since I got time, i'll type the whole lot out for ipconfig /all.

Windows IP configuration

Host name: mattslaptop
Primary Dns Suffix: (empty)
Node Type: Unknown
IP routing Enabled: No
WINS proxy Enabled: No

Ethernet Adapter Network Bridge <Network Bridge>

Media Sate: Media Disconnected
Description: MAC Bridge Miniport
Physical Address: 02-12-3F-14-24-E3

Ethernet adapter Wirless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS suffix: (empty)
Description: Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI Card
Physical Address: 00-14-A5-3E-CF-15
Dhcp Enabled: Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes
Autoconfiguration IP address: 169.254.153.73
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: (empty)

Get rid of anything that isnt needed, please.

Tried to ping woot.com, came up with
Quote:
Ping request could not find host woot.com. Please check the name and try again.

I pinged the router:

Ping statistics
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 <0% Loss>
Approx round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms.

I'm pretty sure that I configured the router correctly.

Edit: what Wireless Channel should I have my router set on? it's currently on 6 (2.437GHz

Can you plug directly into your router and get a signal?

check your device manager and make sure that you have downloaded all of your drivers.

you might be missing the "wireless driver", if so, hard wire in and start windows updates to see what you may have missed.

I have all the updated drivers for wireless and the ones I actually need.

cornholio

Yes, other computers can go to the internet, if they are wired in that is.

ok, so it is obviously a setting inside of your wireless router.

have you configured any type of security passphrases or such?

are you able to connect to the wireless and even more so, do you have a wireless button on your laptop that turns on and off the wireless.(you'd be amazed at how much money my company makes off of that little button :) )

by "connect to the wireless" i mean, are you able to see a wireless signal inside of your wireless software?

like in vista, i have a "connect to" and then it gives me all of the wireless signals that are available.

I've set a passphrase for the router security, and let it generate 4 keys. (I'm guessing thats how its meant to be)

I'm able to connect to the router enough for a signal, which goes from low to excellent, mostly good though.

I can connect to other peoples routers too (I checked my friends)

I have the wireless button on one laptop, but I checked that and its enabled.

set up a static ip connection instead of using dhcp.

...but you are seeing where you would enter in the passphrase to enter into your network?

are you entering in one of the keys? or are you entering in the passphrase?
