Ok so I have a Hp computer and I want to upgrade the MB, processor, and RAM. I heard that if I want to change all that I will have to install a fresh version of the operating system. Will I have any problems and is this true? Or can I run the restore process to be set with the new hardware??

This is what Im planning on getting:

There is a way. I Never tested it and cannot guarantee that it would work therefore I dont recommend it. But here's a link if you're interested http://arstechnica.com/hardware/news/2007/09/how-to-install-a-new-motherboard-without-reinstalling-windows.ars

I read through it, still cant see how they bypass the BIOS error but according to the website it has been done before.

Anyway backup your stuff either way you dont want to risk it.

I wouldn't believe so...

when Windows loads during your install.. it loads several drivers that are used on that particular box.

If you gamble it... let me know if it works :)

Spend the extra $2.01 and get the 3.0 black edition, it is multiplier unlocked.

I would avoid the NV motherboard, get the amd board (I prefer to get the
790 gigabyte board).

These boards may not bolt up in your HP though, who knows, non standard is the standard for dell/hp etc.

As for windows, if you have your windows disk, here is the secret (for xp):
Take your XP disk, be in windows and put the disk in. It will come up and ask you what you want to do, chose the UPGRADE option. It will install some files while in windows (and strip out all your drivers, this is good), then it will reboot, at this point turn off your computer before it boots into windows, change out the hardware, re-install drivers, all your program files will still be there :)

Using this method I took a drive from an AMD computer, put it into an Intel computer and had no problems.

All this being said, I am a big reformat guy, if your OS is old, why put that cluttered OS on a new computer instead of starting fresh?

I was thinking about getting the 1066 but I read with the AMd It only limits one channel to be at 1066. Was gonna look around with the prices and see what the difference was. Not too knowlegable on memory either so I was gonna ask what you guys recommended.

Ok Cole, yeah thought about getting that MB too. Yeah I read that the multipleir was unlocked so I figured it was a better deal anyways for the 940. I was planning on buying a new case anyways as well. I knew the boards were made special for HP although my case is pretty nice and huge.

I do have a XP disk, but if I were to do that would it as for the key code again or will it be fine??
