Well, my mom is deciding to get a computer since the one my teacher gave me is crappy...can't do school work on it either 
So I checked newegg, and saw this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6883118010 Cheap, but I was wondering if it is ok. It has a diff OS. Would I still be able to do stuff (play steam, download games, watch youtube videos, listen to music) like I would on Windows XP on this OS? |

OS is Linux Ubuntu, i think vman has that, anyway, you should be able to do just about anything on any OS |

Ubuntu is a great OS, much better than windows in my opinion. We use it all the time on school computers. For $134.99 this seems like a great deal. I mean ya the processor looks a bit crappy. Also not sure how playing CS will be on it because it looks as though it only has on board video. Also check what kind of input your monitor has because the on board video for this computer is VGA/SVGA not DVI. |

Video card is too weak, and it will be a pain to install steam on Linux (Slayer83 did it) |

Its not really that hard if she installs Wine. I didnt lose much fps running cz using wine before.. prolly lost like 5 fps. |

Not true at all. Many windows programs do not have Linux equivalents. You will find the same thing if you use Mac OS. On Ubuntu you can try to use Wine to run Windows programs, but there are many that only half work or are unsupported and do not run at all, so it's not a 100% guarantee that you can get your old programs working. It's a fucking pain to get CZ working on Linux, trust me 
Anyway, back on topic: Gigi, what do you need to do on your computer? If you want to play games, I would not use Ubuntu. Honestly though, it just comes down to how comfortable you are with using a computer. If you feel that you're really good with computers, you might want to give the Ubuntu PC a try, but otherwise get a Windows PC. |

Well, if I got this computer and used those windows xp cds would it work? I just want to play cz, use steam, do homework, watch youtube videos... pretty basic things. Well, also my mom wants to use the computer to download those flash games and stuff or w/e like diner dash..lol |
