Post subject:  Deccent Graphics cards with small power supply needed?
I was thinking about getting a new Graphics card only problem is I only got a 400 watt power supply also my case is not massive any ideas on small deccent power supplys? wanna run Mafia 2 and Just Cause 2 better.

Do you know the exact power supply it is, what we need to find is its +12v amps (there may be multiple) and what pciexpress power connectors (how many 6 or 6+2 pin) it has. How many amps you have on the 12volt rail(s) will show exactly what cards you can run.

I got the box here its 405 watts

Dual 12V rails Im not sure if thats right but I dont see anything about amps?
Connectors - 1 PCI E 6 so is that the connectors?

Im sure this stuff is not right if so how do I find this stuff out? bit confused lol

Look for a label on the PSU like this:

Look for the +12v (if you have dual rails, there are 2) and the amps are the line below (like 20.0A)

400 watts is just not enough for most cards (the 5750 is considered to be the lowest power card that is a mid-low range, but requires a 450watt). But if your 400w has good amps on the 12v rail, then it will work.

This is info on my PSU someone is telling me I run a 5750 easily or maybe a 5770 is this true?

Are these big cards? my case is smallish

Yeah, the cards are fairly big, not monster though, anyway, the 5750 and 5770 were replaced with the 6850 and 6870 a few weeks ago, and 34amps should be plenty to run either one:

Also the GTX460 requires 24amps, and IMO is a better card. There are 2 versions of the 460, a 768mb/192bit and a 1024mb/256bit, the higher level card has more memory and more memory bandwidth (around 10% more fps), but cost more.

Yes, the 6850/70 cards will be fine on that psu, all these cards are fairly big, all gaming cards are, you need to measure how much space you have (from the rear of the case until you would hit something, to see how much space you have.
