Post subject:  Battery problem on my motorcycle

I bought a 04 Suzuki GS500F a few weeks ago with ~5000 miles on the odometer. The person who I purchased the bike from had it in "winter storage" before selling it. I killed the battery trying to start it the first time (was starting it in the cold without the choke). I jump started the bike with the choke 'on' this time and it started up with no problem.

The next 500 miles I put on, I was able to start the bike without having to jump it. But the battery would die if I failed to start it on my first or second attempt. After about a week of not riding, I tried starting my bike again but the battery was already dead this time (lost its charge i guess). I bought a charger and charged it. The bike wouldnt start, all I heard was clickclickclickclickclickclickclickclick.

What is wrong with my bike/battery? Should I get a new battery or does mine just need some fixing? Here's a picture of the acid levels:

Dead battery for sure, they only last a few years tops, and cost ~$60. A battery changer needs to be left on the battery for hours, but if its a car "quick" charger, it will fry your battery. You need a low amp charger to charge a motorcycle, like 1-5amps. If your charger has a low amp (slow charge) option, use it.

Turns out I didnt hook up the charger to the battery correctly. The sucker is now charged and working fine. Thanks Cole!

Isn't that Bike like a 487CC or something? How old are you? I feel like getting in a rant over British Laws in a minute?!

Yep, it's a good beginner bike.

That's a good beginner bike? wow.

You wouldn't even get closer to that here unless your like, 20ish I think because at 16/17, your restricted to a 50CC for a year or so I believe, and then you're upgraded to a 125CC, but I don't think you can go much higher than that until you're way passed your 20th and you hold a full bike license

I started on a cbr600, now have a rtv1000r (rc51) and a race Gsxr 1000 (also yz250 and ttr125 dirt bikes)

Chris started on a gsxr750. There are no 50cc's here (besides scooters) and only honda and kawisaki make 250cc bikes.

But also our county is more wide open and you would get ran over driving a 50, since they can't go but like half the speed we drive :P

They get ran over driving a 50 here, we also tend to call them 'hair dryers' not sure if you've heard that term for the 50CC bike's. The government here just doesn't trust us enough to use fast cars or bikes.

I was making a reference to the Facebook picture he posted of him driving at 120ish. Not to mention that he took the picture himself going those speeds.. anyways. You live and you learn I guess.
