4chan is not a legion of any sort.4chan is an image board that has many different sections from wallpapers to discussion of video games. There is a section on 4chan called /b/,or the "random" section, where anything goes (expect for few rules such as no posting child pornography). That section is the most visited of them all because of the extreme things you find there. About the Scientology group, they take the name from the site but they are not sponsored by the site at all.
Now about the "big talk" and other things, /b/ is well known for doing mostly website raids. Like I said before, they trolled Tom Green and his show for well over a year. They have also participated with ebaums on a wide facebook hacking spree and email spree. When Palin's email got hacked, it was first posted on 4chan. There has also been the bomb threat, although someone was arrested for that. There was the time where some kid posted himself beating a cat on his bathroom and they found out where the kid lived and called up the police. You really don't want to fuck with /b/. Nowadays a lot of things are done online and this people will constantly fuck with your computer. Not only that but will continue to harass through phone or mail. The main thing is not one or 2 people doing it, is many people doing it. After all, they do it for the lulz...
