I'm sorry if some you find this to be trash, or find the source unreliable, or whatever. I haven't read from this source before, but it seems credible enough to me, and I know about this issue personally. http://www.slate.com/id/2195851 Read both pages. Forgive me if I seem naive on this subject, and please correct me (politely and informatively) if I am. However, as of right now, making this post, I feel sick. It's inhumane to me. I, personally, have been to the E.R. way too many times, and not every time for myself. I know how this is. Before I wondered to myself, why? But then, I thought, "Must be because of how busy it is...That has to be it!" |

I gave up on society a long time ago. This made me more sick than the patient left to die. http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=30667 |

Wow that is just sick, not only did these people not help but they where adults! When I was in elementary school a man in a house nearby the playground was doing roof work when he fell off his ladder, the people that came to his aid and notified adults were children who were on recess! It's just sad how people/adults now a days don't seem comfortable when something falls out of place. It's crazy how they were just staring at him trying to get a closer look and not even making an attempt to help out. As for the E.R one, when I first saw that video I didn't know how the lady fainted but after reading how long she had to wait and what caused her death it just sickens me. For all places a Hospital? I just can't believe civilized people let this happen to one another. |

I just truly cannot fathom how a HOSPITAL let someone fall and lie down on the floor for an hour. NO ONE decided to help her? To even pick her up? Let alone admit her finally? I just can't understand. I understand that hospitals need money. I do. How could they help people if they closed down, right? But really, how necessary is this kind of thing? I'm inclined to think that it's not. Not at all. I've gone through this sort of thing before. The only thing that kept me from exploding in anger was the thought that, "It's just because they're busy." Now I learn that it probably wasn't? I learn that it was just someone prioritizing patients and deciding that an emergency wasn't good enough for a fast admittance. |

The article makes hospitals seem like blood sucking organizations which is not true for the most. If an accident (even if it was deliberate) happens in 1 or 2 hospitals that doesn't mean all ER units do the same thing or are that careless about human lives. Some of us and our relatives wouldn't be alive right now if it wasn't for the ER people. I wouldn't trust the source its obviously one-sided and most ER doctors/nurses are amazing people. You just cant generalize something like this. |

You also have to understand their prioritization issues. You have people on Disability/Welfare/No insurance//etc. going to emergency rooms for a simple head cold to avoid having to pay a doctor because the emergency room cannot turn down any patient. There are big faults in the system but I'm not sure that it can be fixed until we can do something about the problem I listed. |
