yea i know im using that but i got stuck on making the box actually 3 deimensional and not just lines, then i looked here to see if i did something wrong and reaper said press something in the view thing and i pressed the wrong one and then i pressed like everything 20 times each. But after like 5 minutes of messing with it more i got it back to normal... lol

Carlos

I decided to try out mapping because element was doing it and i said "wow i heard thats really complicated" or something like that. Then the conversation went and and vman said "if element can do it, then so can you". so thats what inspired me...It might take a while for me to make a map but im gona try it...

ok next problem: 3d boxes

I make a box in the "top" section.
I click on "camera"
I make a camera pointing my box
But it says my box should look 3d in the camera view like this

Image

but it looks like this

thats because you haven't made it a solid yet. If you clicked on the toolbar to make an object, after making the size right click and click create I believe.

i think he means that it's a wireframe and he wants it to be textured

in the camera box, scroll over camera and instead of "wireframe" "choose either "flat" or "textured"

ok so im at the part where im going to compile my map. And im not sure if this is right because im pretty sure i did something wrong.

the directions say this

Quote:
Now right click on 'mapname.bat' and choose Edit. This should cause Notepad to open with nothing in it. Type the following stuff into the document exactly as shown, replacing 'mapname' with whatever name you are actually using:

With Steam
@echo off
hlcsg -nowadtextures mapname
hlbsp mapname
hlvis mapname
hlrad mapname
copy mapname.bsp "C:\Steam\SteamApps\EMAIL\counter-strike\cstrike\maps"
pause
"C:\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 10 -dev +sv_cheats 1 +map mapname

"C:\Steam" may not be the correct location of Steam on your computer. Make sure you type the correct location on both the lines where it says that. Also replace "EMAIL" with your account name. And if you do not have a "maps" folder, create one.
I type this in the notepad and i dont think its right...

Quote:
@echo off
hlcsg -nowadtextures testmap
hlbsp testmap
hlvis testmap
hlrad testmap
copy testmap.bsp "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\3poopmaster\counter-strike\cstrike\maps"
pause
"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 10 -dev +sv_cheats 1 +map testmap

well the directions are for counter strike, not CZ. but cs maps work the same as cz maps just like skins do.

to make it save to cz, just change the lines that have cousterstrike in it to condition zero, czero etc.

alright but when i changed the notepad text in my 'mapname.bat' file to fit cz, it still opened up with cs.

and

is my error because my map is too big? (lol)

Quote:
hlbsp: Error: Exceeded MAX_LEAF_FACES
Description: This error is almost always caused by an invalid brush, by having huge rooms, or scaling a texture down to extremely small values (between -1 and 1)
Howto Fix: Find the invalid brush. Any imported prefabs, carved brushes, or vertex manipulated brushes should be suspect

instead of making 6 seperate pieces for the big room, i just made 1 big cube and made it hollow. maybe thats it.

EDIT: I forgot to add something in the notepad of my 'mapname.bat' file, i think thats why it didnt work lol. but i resized it also so its not all that big.

Ok i thought it was working after i made it a whole lot smaller and fixed the notepad writing. But then i got a pop up error after it was done compiling saying i dont have enough "virtual memory".

error:
Quote:
hlrad: Error: Memory allocation failure
Description: The program failled to allocate a block of memory.
Howto Fix: Likely causes are (in order of likeliness) : the partition holding the swapfile is full; swapfile size is smaller than required; memory fragmentation; heap corruption
