I say always do the homework.

Study for atleast an hour (or less) a day if you got a test soon. I read if you study for a little bit each day you retain more info than studying for hours just one day.

I usually study the night before the test. When it's the day of the test and I have a free before the class, I also study at that time.

i study as soon as i get to school before a test, i didn't know shit for a spanish vocab test and had to memorize about 30-40 words, i studied for 14 min. and i got a 100
