Nope, still peaks at 60.

Your monitor can only output 60, thats it. If a game has vsync turned off (or no option for it), then the game may output at more than 60, but all that is doing is overloading your monitor, and you get tearing, kinda like horizontal lines across the screen, but instead of lines, its the image not lining up quite right. The best thing to do is go into your nvidia/ati control pannel, and set vsync to force on. This will not only get rid of tearing, it will also tell the game to limit the frames at 60, meaning your computer won't have to work as hard and will run colder.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_tearing

The only time you want vsync turned off, is if you have a really crappy card, and it never hits 60fps, since vsync is not needed, turn it off (there is a tiny... like 1fps overhead for vsync). But since frame rate is never constant, I prefer to vysnc it and make it constant.

Some games dont have the option for vsync, this is why you do what I said above, and force it on all the time. Some games have it turned off by default, especially games with built in benchmarks, like CSS, if you benchmark your system, and have it capped at 60, it will not give you the full score of what you are capable of getting (even though quality is worse), so if you are ever running a benchmark, turn vsync off during that time.

If you want to see what tearing looks like, turn off vsync in cz (and restar the game), go to console, type
developer 1
fps_max 1000

Then try to play the game, my frames will go into the 600-1000s and the game is unplayable, the screen is full of torn images.

To undo
developer 0
fps_max 60
turn on vsync

Then you are using a CRT monitor, or 120hz LCD.
