I was on digg this morning and the topic of atheism>religion was on(Shocker huh?) I mean really, not on digg.

But someone had a quote that I thought was ingenious and it really encompassed how I felt about the whole argument.

So...here it is...Thank you Asvetic. This truly is a great point.

asvetic wrote:
Kill them with kindness... since you don't believe in Hell, you have nothing to fear. Thank them and be on your way.

The fault with Atheism is that it's used as a shield against religious belief, but honestly, isn't atheism a belief in non-belief? If you're a true Atheist, you wouldn't have any reason to make statements against another's belief, it's this absence in belief that empowers you. You're a free thinker, but as soon as you start preaching to the believers about your belief, you're no better than they are.

You have better things to do now that you're not boggled down with religion.

Yes, I know... I'm opening up Pandora's box again. But hey, its a slow work day, what else am I to do?

*sigh* Too bad your quote only targets the stereo-typical "positive claiming" Atheists... Otherwise, that quote has no meaning. The stereo-typical Atheist is outspoken, rebellious, bitter, and believes that belief is bad.

Unfortunately, those Atheists give Atheism a bad name. Many Atheists just plain don't believe. And frankly, most of them don't give a damn WHAT anyone/you/their own mother believes.

Personally, I believe positive claiming is wrong for an Atheist. Sure, religions get to make positive claims, but that doesn't mean they have to. But again, not all of them are making the positive claim that "there is no god(s)." And, no, that doesn't make them an agnostic.

Serve the noodles in fear, and rejoice in trembling.
Believe in them lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way,
though his wrath be kindled but a little.

Ramen.

I have seen light when i was touched by his holy noddleness.

He created the sky, mountains and midgets.
