Alright well the parts are ordered and now I await my first build! Ive been reading up on how to actually go forth so I have a pretty good idea of what I have to do. However, is there anything specific, from your experiences of building, that I should take note of?

What did you get, did you go with the OEM cooler, zalman, are you going to overclock?

If you are doing all stock, no overclock, just use the paste that is on the intel cooler, it will work fine. If you want to overclock, artic silver 5 is a MUST.

What chip did you get?

Be patient. Don't get in a rush. Make sure that you have all of your parts before you start building. Un pack everything and familiarize yourself with all of the parts.

Read up on cable management. What case did you decide to go with? If it has a motherboard tray/removable back you can hide wires behind the Motherboard.

This will allow for increased airflow inside the case.


All of these things will help make everything seem cleaner. More professionally built.

either use gloves or make sure you've grounded before you touch ANYTHING inside a PC. all it takes is for one static buildup to discharge onto the right piece of soldering or piece of metal and there goes that piece, potentially damaging other stuff.

I personally wasnt unfortunate enough to do it, but a buddy of mine stuck his hand inside his pc to make sure his RAM was connected fully and he shocked something on the mobo and his pc was never to be started again.

Indeed, the easiest thing to do is just before you touch anything, put your hand on the frame of the case (any metal part, unpainted), and anytime you move around, do the same.

Make sure that you cant be grounded,

Make sure that you and the case are hovering about 4 feet in the air before you start touching anything in case.

Its that simple.

make sure to wash every part with water. To make sure the parts are clean, and if thats not enought, plug in the computer when washing it, that was it gets dry really fast

alright well i knew about the static, hopefully I can build it in a garage with minimal chances of building up static and shit but ill make sure to discharge it accordingly.

with that fan you are talking about in case i wanted the extra airflow/overclocking purposes. Ill make that decision when the time comes.

O yea I got that silver thermal paste shit just in case as well.

My friend that's helping me build knows how to over clock and shit so idk we'll see. Ill keep ya'll updated for sure.

BTW, i wasnt joking about the gloves. there really isnt any harm in being careful, but cole is right. Easiest thing to do is touch some exposed metal.

Oh, make sure to put the cables very neatly. This is ESSENTIAL later on. trust me, my cables are sooooo unorganized that is a nightmare connecting an extra hard drive or fan.

I've got the same case you have.


Apparently I'm a moron. Please lean your head to the right to see this is Smilin_Chrisavision.


Use the back side to your advantage. Just because you have the powersupply and the Motherboard connected doesn't mean you cant experiment with wiring.

Take your time. Try to plan ahead. The 24 pin will be in top left corner. Run it, and then ziptie it to the back. Make sure its the right length.

Unless you've got a modular PSU, you'll have extra wires laying around. You can hide them above the PSU that way you dont restrict airflow from the fan to the PSU.

You will have a VERY similar setup to Chris, he can send you his settings, and right out the door you will have a 4.0ghz computer, he has yet to tweak his, I bet 4.2-4.4ghz is not out of the question and with the zalman cooler, he runs REALLY freakin cold.
