first we need to define the term revolution, the OED(Oxford English Dictionary) states this: A complete overthrow of the established government in any country or state by those who were previously subject to it; a forcible substitution of a new ruler or form of government.
The Americans were first, then the French, and later the Russians in 1905. the french and Russians would get most of their ideas from what took place during the age of enlightenment here in America and across the world.
That being said, the revolutions changed what used to be feudalistic societies with little to no social mobility. I.E. All power was inherent based on your nobility or whether or not god "chose" you to rule rather than your merit. Enlightenment, which is a whole topic on it's own, helped change the ideas of what it mean to be a member of society. "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" became household terms. It was a complete paradigm shift in the way people thought about governing themselves and each other. The constitution would pull heavily from these ideas.
when youre teacher talks about the bourgeois, he's talking about a type of socioeconomic class that was the middle to upper class people of the time. They were in constant conflict with the nobility because nobles power was inherited while the bourgeois followed a typical capitalist mentality which allowed them to move around in socioeconomic status. This was what Americans had fought for previously.
the events that occurred during the revolution and immediately after are very complex and college classes are devoted just to understanding it. It looks like your teacher is taking the social class divided approach to explaining why the revolution took off. Hope this helps some what, let me know what else you need.
Dude. Thanks so much.
Yea we learned about the "enlightenment" a little
Now i'm confused about robspierre/reign of terror...
The reign of terror is when the new government kills their own people beacuase they think the old government is planting spys so that they can show that the new government is bad or something...lol
not so sure
